This is a temporary visa, valid up to 2 years and renewable, issued to the crew members of chartered, hired or leased ships for rendering of a service.

Permission for the operation of the ship in Brazilian national waters, a report from the Brazilian Navy and a copy of the respective agreement are requirements for the issuance of this visa. Some of the crew members must be Brazilian citizens.

The purpose of this type of visa is to make it possible to the foreigner working on an on-going basis on board of the foreign ship or platform, to enter and to stay in the Brazilian jurisdictional waters.

Crew members bearing the international seafarer's identity card are not subject to the work permit requirements, and there is no employment relationship in Brazil. Exception is made in the case of technicians who render temporary services on board. The gradual hiring of Brazilian sailors and other professionals is required whenever the number of days of operation in Brazilian national waters exceeds 90 consecutive days.
